ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA (AML), CYTOGENETICS PANEL

In acute myeloid leukemia (AML), the cancer cells carry changes in their chromosomes and genes. The cytogenetics panel studies those changes in a blood or bone-marrow sample and identifies which specific abnormalities are present.

This is not just a diagnostic label. Different chromosome patterns in AML behave very differently — some respond well to standard treatment, others need more intensive or different therapy. The panel's findings are a central input when the haematologist classifies the disease and plans treatment.
