Sample Type

8 mL (4 mL min.) plasma from 4 special Green Top (Sodium Heparin tubes containing 5 mg Sodium metabisulphite) available from LPL on request. Adhere to REQUESTED specimen volume. Draw specimen as follows: Patient should be at rest for 30 minutes after insertion of an IV cannula. Collect specimen with patient supine. Immerse specimen immediately in ice water. Separate plasma within 10 minutes, preferably in cold centrifuge, transfer into sterile screw capped vial and FREEZE immediately. Ship frozen. DO NOT THAW. Patient should strictly avoid drugs like Aldomet (Alpha methyldopa), Labetalol, Isoproterenol, Isoetharine, Alpha-one blockers, Aminophylline, Amphetamines, Ampicillin, Beta-blockers, Ephedrine, Imipramine, Nicotine, Phenacetin, Theophylline, Phenothiazine, Vasodilators (Minoxidil, Nitrates & Hydralazine), Aspirin, PAS, Alpha-2 agonists, Bromocriptine, Calcium channel blockers (long term use), L-dopa, Cimetidine, clofibrate, MAO inhibitors, Propranolol, Penicillin, Reserpine, Thyroxine, vigorous exercise, severe stress and cigarette smoking at least 72 hrs before and during specimen collection.
